Hi there, I’m NHH Jovial, a former hunting hound with the NHH pack and now spokeshound for hound adoption from NHH. I loved being a hunting hound and I was good at it! I sniffed, and ran and sang with my friends. We lived as a pack and ran with the horses and were full of a zest for life. Those were good times!
When I started to get a little older, I shared my hunting experience with the puppies. I taught them what to chase (coyote smell = good) and what not to chase (deer smell = ick poo, ignore!)
After a few years, the puppies learned a lot and were able to outrun me on a long hunt. The huntsman looked around for a nice retirement home for me and some kind people stepped up and took me into their home!
They are the best! I won the lottery! I am so grateful. I have my own things and my own space. I’ve never had that before. I have my own dish! I get chew toys! Sometimes squeaker toys! These people have other dogs and we got along like peas and carrots the first day we met! Here I am with my new guy and my new dog friends the day I moved in.
When I moved into my new place, I didn’t make any messes anywhere! Why would I? We don’t usually make them in our kennel where we live – we go outside for that. Everybody knows that! I eat my breakfast and dinner in a crate because I like it there.
Sometimes on a sunny day, after my girl and my boy have taken me for a walk, I lie on my couch and think about what a great life I have. Sometimes I dream about hunting while I am snuggled on my couch. I am having the best of both worlds – an exciting youth with the NHH hounds, and now a relaxed and loved middle age where I am learning more about love and being connected to people in a different way than I was when I was a hunter. When I hunted, I loved my leader! My people were sort of like athletic coaches. They taught me skills and educated me about my job. Now my guy and girl and dog friends are my laid back family and I love them so much!
